Tractor Sale Falls due to Slow Monsoon this Season

August sales of agriculture equipments have contracted, and season is not promising as water reservoirs are depleting, cane farmers have not been paid their dues, the cotton crop faces a major pest attack. Some companies expect low inflation would counter the weak sentiment, but many say sales are down and the outlook is weak.

"There are no signs of any improvement till now," Singh said. "Rural consumers are cautious, looking for value purchase and not willing to pay for fancy features or premium products."

Rural India is distressed as the monsoon has fallen short for two consecutive years, and the winter sown crop suffered due to unseasonal rains just before the harvest.

Two-wheeler sales, which depend heavily on rural demand, fell in August. "The previous (year) was not great; the future crop too does not look that good.

Pawan Goenka, executive director at Mahindra & Mahindra, termed weak monsoon a concern. Domestic sales of Mahindra tractors fell 18 per cent in August.
Dilip Patil, one of the largest dealers of Honda's two wheelers, said sales fell 10-15 per cent in August at his showroom in the Vidarbha region.
